Our Waste Problem

Americans produce a lot of waste. A lot. We are the top trash producing nation in the world. The EPA estimates America creates 267.8 million tons of waste anually which is the equivalent to around 4.51 pounds of waste per person per day. Many of us perform our daily tasks without even realising we are creating waste. For example you go to a coffee shop and order your favorite drink and pastry which comes in a disposable cup and plastic bag. Then later in the day, you get hungry and you eat a banana and throw the peel away and drink a soda that comes in an aluminum can. You ordered a package online and it comes in a carboard box sealed with tape and packed with packaging peanuts. All of these actions generate small amounts of waste, whether it's recyclable, compostable, or just trash, it all adds up. And it's not just you that's creating all this trash, every single person is doing the same as you—mindlessly generating waste.
